Description
KRIK? KRAK? THE SHORT STORY AND THE ORAL TRADITION
A Short Story Workshop | $30
Location: H3-S3, The Charles Wheatley Main Building
Facilitator: Ingrid Persaud
Before stories lived on the page, they lived in the voice.
In Krik? Krak? The Short Story and the Oral Tradition, award-winning novelist Ingrid Persaud invites participants to explore the rich storytelling traditions of the Caribbean and discover how the rhythms, characters, humour, and wisdom of oral storytelling can be transformed into compelling short fiction.
This hands-on workshop combines close reading, discussion, and guided writing exercises designed to help participants uncover story ideas, strengthen their narrative voice, and draw inspiration from the traditions that have shaped Caribbean storytelling for generations.
Participants will examine a model text before taking part in a generative writing exercise, followed by small-group feedback and discussion.
This workshop is best suited for writers with some prior writing experience who are looking to deepen their storytelling skills and develop new work.
Bring pen and paper. No laptops.
