Every great story begins with a conversation.

Join us for the official opening event of BVI Lit Fest 2026, an evening of storytelling, reflection, and connection featuring acclaimed Palestinian American author Etaf Rum in conversation with Virgin Islands Poet Laureate Richard Georges.

In Voices Over the Water, Rum will discuss her celebrated novel Evil Eye, exploring themes of family, identity, intergenerational trauma, womanhood, and the complexities of the Palestinian diaspora. Together, Rum and Georges will examine the power of storytelling to spark dialogue, challenge perspectives, and connect people across cultures and experiences.

Following the conversation, guests are invited to stay for a special reception and mingle with festival artists, authors, publishers, and headliners while enjoying the vibrant sounds of the Virgin Islands performed by The Razor Blades.

Known for their dynamic performances and dedication to preserving local culture, The Razor Blades bring the energy of fungi music to the festival, celebrating a uniquely Virgin Islands musical tradition rooted in storytelling, community, and history.
